Thanos Kitromilides

Artist

Thanos was born in Athens in 1986 but since 2006 he has permanently lives in Cyprus. At the age of five he began drawing in the context of treatment of typical childhood autism. In 1989, in Athens he participated at the first painting exhibition for children with disabilities and then took part in various exhibitions in Athens and abroad. Pieces of his work can be found in Brussels and London where he took part in painting exhibitions of "Very Special Arts". Since 1989 he has participated in many group exhibitions of painting and hagiography in Cyprus and Greece. In 2000 he received the first prize (for his work "Jesus Christ").

He was lucky to work with well-known teachers such as Cambero Vasilis, Vlachos Magda, Vlachos Alexis and Nikopoulou Ina, at the art workshop of the cultural center of the Municipality of Athens. At the same time he was trained in hagiography at the same center by teachers Stavroula Sakka and Andreas Moussos. In Cyprus he worked with Irma Voulgari.

He is inspired by the landscapes of Cyprus, which are the most important expression of his work and which he depicts uniquely with his sensitivity and authenticity. The purity of Thanos' eye and soul, along with his dedication and painting talent, creates works that touch us and bring us closer to the truth of life and art.

Thanos is also an athlete and since May 2002 he excels in swimming. Over the years he has been awarded with twenty gold medals at Special Olympics. However, he is particularly distinguished in the rowing club of the most ancient athletic body of Greece in Piraeus, the "Erete Group". The AMEA team took fourth place in 2002 in the world championship in Seville Spain and third place in 2003 in Milan, Italy.
